Railway automation

Prolan Process Control Co. and Prolan Alfa Ltd. have been dealing with railway automation since 1998. Our first large project was the delivery of GYSEV’s integrated railway control system where beside the power supply control (FET) we created the functionality of central traffic control systems (KÖFE, KÖFI), too. The system complies with CENELEC MSZ-EN 50126, 50128, 50129 standards. In 2009 we handed over the remote traffic control system in Szeged region which controls 13 railway stations and supervises 40 stations, in 2011 we finished the modernization of the railway line of South Balaton region. In 2010 we worked on the reconstruction of Sopron-Szentgotthárd line of GYSEV. Our Rolling Stock Department installed Locomotive On-board Computers (LOC) on 1500 diesel and electric traction vehicles and control cars of MÁV group. In 2012 MÁV had our LOC on their newly purchased TRAXX vehicles installed at Bombardier’s factory in Kassel.

(2009) Establishment of Central Traffic Control system in Szeged region

In fall of 2006 MÁV published the public tender „Delivery of station interlocking systems reconstruction and remote control systems financed by the Vendor”, which aimed to build up a state-of-the-art control center in Szeged for the more than 300km long lines. The tender was awarded to Prolan, the contract was signed in August 2007. The [...]

(2012) Prolan Locomotive Onboard Computers on 25 new MÁV TRAXX locos

MÁV Hungarian Railways is still committed to the fleet management based on the Prolan Locomotive Onboard Computers, the newly purchased 25 TRAXX locos are running with our products on their board. The installation was performed in the Kassel located plant of Bombardier based on the Prolan logistic and documentation services.

The Locomotive On-board Computer, which has been developed under the guidance of the professionals of MÁV (the Hungarian State Railways) Co. Traction Department, is part of MÁV’s future complex Traction Supervisory System (TSS). The device contains integrated GSM and GPS services. The on-board computer continuously provides data to the dispatching centre regarding current position, operation status and mechanical parameters of the traction vehicle.

The LOC is a modular system built in 19-inches rack modules communicating through CAN. Every module has its own processor unit including power supply unit.

The functions of the device:

  • Automatically connects to the main supervisory system of traction vehicles and engine drivers
  • Management of the electronic logbook
  • Realizes the supervision of the electric traction energy on diesel and electric locomotives. Measurement of heating electric energy on diesel locomotives with less than 1% accuracy, collection of digital signals from external sources between 12V and 230V, AC/DC, in the range of 4 to 20mA
  • Automatic measurement of the fuel flowing to and from the feeder, sending reports to the dispatch centre in case of unaccounted fuel consumption
  • Supervision of the engine’s activity, support of engine’s diagnostic and maintenance, collection of digital signals supplied by the relay contactors, and counting the operating hours of mechanical machinery

The fail-safe operation of the LOC is crucial in supervising railway systems. The device is also a basis of the visual and automatic voice passenger information available through an Internet connection.
