ZigWeb Gateway

In Prolan Smart Energy’s HAN structure ZigWeb is the universal access gateway. It collects data from the ESP via the ZigBee network and forwards it to the endpoints using wired or wireless local area network connection depending on the LAN module built-in the device.

ZigWeb is either built with standard RJ45 Ethernet port (ZigWeb LAN) for the wired or WiFi module (ZigWeb Wifi) for the wireless networks.
ZigWeb gives universal access because the data readouts can be made through a simple internet browser or by installing ZigWeb’s Java application stored in the internal flash memory. ZigWeb devices support AES 128-bit (ZigBee) and WEP 128-bit (Wifi) encryption methods.

ZigWeb LAN is built with RJ45 connector, and external antenna connector for ZigBee range extension. ZigWeb Wifi is built with two antenna connectors for both ZigBee and WiFi range extension. Both product types have a status indicator, factory reset and pairing buttons on the back panel.

Application mode

The application mode is similar to the working method of StickBee’s Java application. After the first connection the user can download the Java installer from the device itself by connecting to it as to network storage. After installation the collected data can be retrieved in the application itself.

In case of using ZigWeb Wifi it is allowed to connect tablets – running Apple iOS or Google Android – after downloading the applications from the OS hosting application stores (Appstore, Android Market). The device discovery runs automatically, only in some cases (custom security settings) is there a need of further setups.

HTTP mode

If the user at the endpoint does not want to install third party applications the HTTP mode allows to read-out the collected data using a direct LAN/WLAN connection by connecting to the ZigWeb device’s built-in webserver through a simple browser. The connection is HTTPS. The internal webserver is a resource sparring website so it could be easily used even by a smartphone.

Since StickBee and ZigWeb devices are based on the same engine, both devices support the same basis of the values to show that can be set up using the parameterization software or the internal webserver logged in as the superuser. Even though in case of ZigWeb there are some additional values such as:

  • LAN parameters (IP address, MAC address, etc.)
  • WLAN parameters (IP address, MAC address, SSID, signal strength, etc.)
